Originally founded in 1896 under the title Clayton golf club, Brookdale was renamed upon its move to Lord Lane Failsworth in September 1905, where it was a very popular nine-hole course. There it stayed until 1962 when it moved to its present home in the Woodhouses area of Failsworth, and became a twelve-hole course.
