From 1974, following the opening of the golf course as Hoveringham Golf Club, there has always been a close affinity with the nearby RAF station at Finningley, now converted to an International Airport called Robin Hood Sheffield Doncaster. Many members, present and past were based at Finningley and in past years there was an annual match between the club and a team from the RAF which only ceased with the closure of the airbase.
